I started setting up OBS on Mac OS.
I discovered that the macOS Screen Capture option actually has a number of useful settings that can help us limit visibility, so it doesn’t have to cast the entire screen.
- We can choose Display Capture to grab the whole screen
- Window Capture to get a specific window or
- Application Capture to get all windows of the selected application
If you can’t find your app make sure to check the box that says Show fullscreen and hidden windows / applications:
If you tap the … button on the Audio Mixer channel for your microphone you’ll find the Filters option that will give you access to software VSTs and other audio filters:
Here we can set up our audio filters for Noise Suppression, Noise Gate, Compression and EQ. I used the Marvel GEQ vst for my EQ. I’m pretty sure apple ships with a decent Audio Unit (AU) graphical EQ but it wasn’t coming up, so make sure to download the VST specifically.
I added some quick EQ by cutting out bands that either had no sound on them or reduced the clarity of my voice and ended up with something like this, although I didn’t spend much time on it:
I discovered the EQ from a random YouTube video on Mac OBS Studio, which is actually where I found all of these options :)
